Megan’s Surprise Party
Megan’s Surprise 40th Birthday
I met Megan our freshman year at Belmont University when we were pledging the same sorority, Phi Mu. If there is any time in my life I would go back to it would be college! We had the most fun!! I can’t believe we have been best friends for 22 years! Just lately we were talking about relationships, how some are glass balls that maybe need extra hand holding and nurturing and could absolutely shatter at any time. Then you have the rubber balls, the ones that always bounce back the ones you know may not need constant attention but will always be there. I know no matter which way we bounce, our friendship will always be on the other side of those bounces.
We have some stories!!!! We could write a book from our trips alone including two study abroad trips, London and Paris (well she was studying in Paris and I was visiting). She’s the most fun friend you will ever have but with that comes the most kind, loving, supportive human I know. Her faith and kindness always inspire me! Oh and how many friends give birth and show up at your wedding 4 days later ready to party….Megan!
I can’t forget Ed, Megan’s husband. I remember the night we met him and how we instantly liked him because he brought 2 liters to our small group gathering at Megan’s house. Ed is up there with favorite husbands (I mean obviously Mike is #1), always a good time, so kind and so damn funny. I love he started planning her surprise party months in advance. He picked such a perfect spot with so many memories, he made sure the menu had her favorites and his invite list was perfect. I was honored to help with some of the special touches.
What did I love?
The place cards!! We were a group of 28 and we were really two groups of friends, so I wanted to keep everyone with their inner circles. Plus, I just love assigned seating, it adds something instantly elegant to a party. My friend and former co-worker started her own business and I loved getting to work with her (again). She also does events so I loved she could take the picture of the room and bring out the color of the chairs. It will be the first of many times! She is so talented!
This is probably my 5th event handling all the flowers. I really loved the way these turned out! I used my own wedding for inspiration where we had long tables with lots of bud vases of flowers. If you have the patience, time and are able to transport then making your own arrangements is a great way to save money. I had ordered a flower kit online over a year ago for Stef & Hannah’s wedding and it has been worth the $12. Trader Joe’s is hands down the best place to buy flowers. I bring my buckets and fill them up. I made 12 arrangements with $45 worth of flowers from Trader Joe’s and $25 in bud vases on Amazon.
Kocoa’s Cookies are the best! Megan introduced me to her a few years ago and I have used her several times. Her cookies are delicious, and she can do anything! I loved too that everyone at the party knew Kocoa’s cookies and most of them are customers as well.
